PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: July 5, 2026
1. Overview
Wordpad Pro ("the App") is designed to work offline-first. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is handled, and your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable privacy laws.
2. Data Controller
For the purposes of GDPR, the data controller is Rushikesh Bacchav, developer of Wordpad Pro. Contact: wordpadprosupport@gmail.com.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not require account creation or login. We do not operate servers that receive, store, or process Your Content (documents, text, images). We do not currently use analytics or tracking SDKs in the App. Because we never receive Your Content or personal data on any server, in the vast majority of your use of the App there is no personal data processed by us as a controller.
4. Data Stored on Your Device
All documents, folders, images, and settings are stored locally in the App's private storage area (a local database and local files) on your device. This data is not transmitted to us or any third party by the App itself. You remain in control of this data at all times.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
Where any processing of personal data by the App does occur (for example, local use of device permissions described below), the legal basis is your explicit consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), given when you grant the relevant device permission. You may withdraw this consent at any time by revoking the permission in your device settings, which will disable the related feature going forward.
6. Backups
When you create a backup, the App generates a ZIP file containing your documents and folders and passes it to your device's file picker or share sheet, so you control where it is saved (local storage, cloud drive, another app, etc.). We do not receive a copy of this file. Restoring a backup only reads the file you select. You are the controller of any personal data contained in a backup file once you choose to store or share it elsewhere.
7. Device Permissions
The App may request access to: microphone (used only to convert your speech to text while dictating — audio may be processed by your device's or operating system's built-in speech recognition service, subject to Apple's or Google's own privacy policies, depending on platform); camera and photos (used only to let you insert images or scan text into a document via on-device OCR); storage (used only to let you import/export documents and backup files). None of this data is sent to us.
8. On-Device Text Recognition (OCR)
Text recognition is performed using an on-device machine learning model. Images you scan are processed locally on your device for this purpose and are not uploaded to our servers.
9. International Data Transfers
Because Your Content and personal data are processed and stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to us, the App itself does not cause any international transfer of your personal data. If you choose to store a backup in a third-party cloud service, that service's own privacy policy and transfer safeguards will apply.
10. Data Retention
We do not retain any personal data, since none is transmitted to or stored by us. Data stored locally on your device (documents, backups, settings) is retained for as long as you choose to keep it, and is deleted when you delete it within the App or uninstall the App.
11. Automated Decision-Making
The App does not use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
12. Advertising
The App does not currently display third-party advertisements. If this changes in a future version, we will update this Policy to disclose any advertising partner, the personal data (such as an advertising identifier) it may access, the legal basis relied upon, and, where required, obtain your consent before the feature is enabled.
13. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children and does not collect personal information at all beyond what is described above. The App is not directed at children under the age of 16.
14. Data Security
Since Your Content stays on your device, its security depends on your device's own security (passcode, encryption, OS-level protections). We recommend keeping your device and OS updated.
15. Your Rights Under GDPR
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, you have the right to: access, rectify, or erase your personal data; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and withdraw consent at any time. Because we do not hold your personal data on any server, most of these rights are exercised directly by you within the App (e.g., editing or deleting documents, revoking permissions, or uninstalling the App). For any request you cannot resolve yourself, contact us at wordpadprosupport@gmail.com.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority if you believe your rights have been violated.
16. Your Choices
You can delete all App data at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing its storage in your device settings. You can revoke camera, microphone, or storage permissions at any time.
17. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in an updated "Last updated" date.
18. Contact Us
If you have any questions or suggestions about this Privacy Policy, or wish to exercise any GDPR right, please contact us at wordpadprosupport@gmail.com.
