Word Keeper Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Word Keeper ("the app") collects, processes, and protects information when you use it.

Data stored locally

Word Keeper stores your words, translations, sections, learning profiles, settings, and practice progress primarily on your device.

Deleting the app or clearing its data removes this locally stored information. However, it does not automatically delete optional Google Drive backups or information previously processed by Google services as described below.

Online and on-device translation

Word Keeper uses Google Cloud Translation to provide translations.

When you request a translation, the entered word or phrase and the selected source and target languages are securely sent through Firebase Cloud Functions to Google Cloud Translation.

Google states that submitted text is used only to provide the Cloud Translation service and is held briefly in memory while the request is processed:

https://cloud.google.com/translate/data-usage

To reduce repeated translation requests, Word Keeper may store the following information in Cloud Firestore:

  • the translated result;
  • the source and target language codes;
  • the creation time;
  • a hashed value derived from the original text.

The original text is not stored in plain text in the translation cache. Cached translations are not associated with your name or email address.

Word Keeper also supports Google ML Kit as an on-device fallback. When on-device translation is used, the translated text remains on your device. Language models may need to be downloaded from Google.

Anonymous authentication and service protection

Word Keeper does not require a user-facing account. However, the app creates an anonymous Firebase identifier to access protected backend functionality.

Firebase Authentication, Firebase App Check, and Google Play Integrity may process:

  • an anonymous Firebase identifier;
  • IP address;
  • app and device information;
  • installation identifiers;
  • app integrity tokens.

This information is used only to authenticate requests, prevent abuse, enforce usage limits, and protect the translation service.

Word Keeper also stores technical request and character counters associated with the anonymous identifier. These counters do not contain your words, translations, name, or email address.

Optional Google Drive backup

If you enable backup in Settings, Word Keeper uses Google Sign-In to connect to your Google account.

The app requests the limited drive.file permission. This permission allows Word Keeper to access only the backup files created by the app. It does not provide access to other files in your Google Drive.

The backup may contain your:

  • words and translations;
  • sections;
  • learning profiles;
  • settings;
  • practice progress.

When you connect Google Drive, the app receives your email address and basic Google profile information. This information is used only to display the connected account and manage your backup. It is not stored on a server controlled by us.

Google Drive backup is optional, and the app can be used without connecting a Google account.

You can disconnect Google Drive in the app's Settings and delete the backup file directly from your Google Drive.

Analytics and crash reporting

Word Keeper uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used, identify technical problems, and improve its stability.

The app may collect:

  • app usage events, such as opened screens and used features;
  • practice statistics, such as exercise type and whether an answer was correct;
  • interactions with reminders and the mini-window;
  • device model and operating system version;
  • app version and installation identifier;
  • crash reports, stack traces, and relevant diagnostic information.

Analytics and crash reports do not include your words, translations, section names, imported files, or other dictionary content.

This information is associated with an anonymous installation identifier rather than your name or email address.

Advertising

Word Keeper does not currently display advertising and does not use collected information for advertising purposes.

Data sharing

Word Keeper does not sell personal information.

Information is transferred only to service providers required to operate app functionality, including Google and Firebase services. These providers process information on our behalf according to their applicable terms and privacy policies.

Data retention and deletion

Locally stored dictionary and progress data is removed when you delete the app or clear its data.

Google Drive backups must be deleted separately from your Google Drive.

Cached translation results and technical usage records may remain in Firebase until they are deleted as part of service maintenance.

To request deletion of technical backend records associated with your anonymous Firebase identifier, contact:

raymarksgames@gmail.com

Additional information may be required to identify the relevant anonymous records.

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app's functionality or data-processing practices change.

Updates will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
