VELOCITY — PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: May 26, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the Velocity mobile application ("Velocity", "the App", "we", "our", "us") handles information about you when you install and use it.

By using Velocity, you agree to the practices described below.

1. WHO WE ARE

Velocity is built and maintained by Chiranth V, an independent developer.

You can contact us at chiranthkothari96@gmail.com for any privacy-related question, deletion request, or concern.

2. WHAT DATA VELOCITY COLLECTS

Velocity collects only the data needed to track your rides and operate the app. We have grouped what's collected below by category, and explained why each is used.

a. Location data (precise GPS)

What: Your device's precise geographic coordinates (latitude, longitude, speed, altitude, bearing) while you have a ride in progress.

When: Only while a ride is actively being recorded. Velocity asks for "while-using" location permission and, if you choose, "background location" so a ride can keep recording when the screen is off or the app is in the background.

Why: To draw your route on the map, calculate distance, speed, duration, and other ride metrics.

Where it lives: Entirely on your device. Velocity does not have a backend server. Location data is stored in a local SQLite database on your phone and is never transmitted to us or to any third party.

b. Device's Advertising Identifier (AAID)

What: A resettable, anonymous identifier assigned by Android to your device for advertising purposes (sometimes called the AAID or Google Advertising ID).

Used by: Google AdMob, which is the ad network we use to show banner and interstitial ads.

Why: To allow AdMob to serve relevant ads, frequency-cap ads (so you don't see the same one repeatedly), and measure ad performance.

Your control: You can reset or limit this identifier at any time in your device's Settings → Google → Ads. You can also opt out of personalized ads in those same settings — Velocity will continue to function normally, you'll just see non-personalized ads instead.

If you purchase "Remove ads": No further ad requests are made by Velocity and the AAID is no longer used.

c. Basic usage and technical data (via AdMob)

While ads are being served, AdMob automatically receives the following from your device, in line with its own privacy policy:
- Your device's IP address (used to approximate country/region for ad localization)
- Operating system name and version
- Device model identifier
- App version
- General app interaction events used to display and report on ads

Velocity itself does not collect, aggregate, or store this information separately. We don't run any custom analytics SDK (no Firebase Analytics, no Mixpanel, no third-party analytics service).

d. Purchase confirmation (via Google Play Billing)

What: A purchase token confirming that you completed the one-time "Remove ads" in-app purchase.

Why: So Velocity can verify your purchase on every launch and keep the app ad-free for you across reinstalls and devices logged into the same Google account.

What we do not see: Your name, email, payment card number, billing address, or any other payment detail. All payment processing happens between you and Google Play Billing; Velocity receives only a confirmation that a purchase has occurred.

e. Map tile requests (via OpenFreeMap)

What: When the map is displayed, Velocity requests map tile images from OpenFreeMap (a free, open-source map hosting service), using the MapLibre SDK. Each tile request necessarily includes your IP address and the coordinates of the map area being viewed.

Why: To render the underlying map for your route.

What is not sent: No personal identifier, no ride history, no in-app data is sent to OpenFreeMap — only the map area requested for display.

3. WHAT VELOCITY DOES NOT COLLECT

For clarity, Velocity does not collect, request, or have access to:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any account information (Velocity has no sign-in)
- Your contacts, calendar, photos, microphone, or camera
- Your health, fitness, or biometric data from external sensors
- SMS, call logs, or other apps' data
- Payment card or banking information (handled entirely by Google Play Billing)

Velocity has no user accounts, no cloud sync, and no analytics backend.

4. WHERE YOUR RIDE DATA LIVES

All ride data — routes, distances, durations, speed history, mode of transport, ride titles — is stored locally on your device in an app-private SQLite database. This data:
- Never leaves your device
- Is not uploaded to us, to Google, or to any third party
- Is included in your device's regular Android backups if you have those enabled (those backups are managed by Google, not by us; see Google's backup policies for details)
- Is deleted entirely if you uninstall Velocity or clear the app's data in Android system settings

5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

Velocity integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that governs its handling of data.

Google AdMob — Serves banner and interstitial ads. Receives Advertising ID, IP address, and technical device info. Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Google Play Billing — Processes the in-app purchase of "Remove ads". Receives only the purchase token; payment details are handled by Google directly. Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

OpenFreeMap (via MapLibre) — Provides map tiles displayed in the app. Receives IP address and map tile coordinates per request. Privacy policy: https://openfreemap.org/

We do not sell or rent any data about you to any third party. We do not have any first-party analytics; the only operational data leaving your device is what the services above require to function.

6. RETENTION AND DELETION

Because Velocity stores ride data locally on your device, deletion is fully under your control:

- Delete a single ride: open the ride detail screen and tap delete.
- Delete all data: Settings → Apps → Velocity → Storage → Clear data. This removes the entire local database.
- Uninstall: removes all locally stored data immediately.

We do not retain copies of your ride data because we never receive it.

For the data that flows through third-party services (AdMob, Play Billing, OpenFreeMap), those services retain data according to their own policies; consult the links above for details. To restrict or delete the Advertising Identifier used by AdMob, see your device's ads settings.

7. YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA in California, and similar laws elsewhere), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your data
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Withdraw consent at any time

Because Velocity does not collect personal data on a server, most of these rights are exercised directly on your device (uninstall, clear app data, reset Advertising ID). For any other request, contact chiranthkothari96@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Velocity is not directed at children and is not intended for users under the age of 13 (in the United States, under COPPA) or under 16 (in the European Union, under GDPR).

We do not knowingly collect any personal data from children in these age groups. If you believe a child has provided personal data through Velocity, please contact us at chiranthkothari96@gmail.com and we will take steps to delete that information.

9. SECURITY

The data Velocity stores on your device is protected by Android's standard app-sandboxing model: only Velocity itself can read its own database. We use HTTPS for all network traffic (AdMob, Play Billing, map tile requests). However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, when we add a new feature or change a third-party service. When we do:
- The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change.
- Material changes (new categories of data collection, new sharing partners) will be communicated in-app the next time you open Velocity.

Continued use of the App after a change indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
