PRIVACY POLICY - SYNANTO
========================

Effective Date: February 19, 2026
Last Updated: February 19, 2026

1. INTRODUCTION
---------------

Synanto ("we," "our," or "us") is a mobile vocabulary application for iOS and Android that helps users learn synonyms and antonyms through quizzes and daily challenges. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By using Synanto, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
--------------------------

2.1 Information You Provide

The following information is collected only if you optionally create an account:

- Email address: Used for authentication only (via Supabase Auth)
- Username: Displayed on leaderboards
- Password: Stored as a secure hash — we never store plaintext passwords

Account creation is entirely optional. The app is fully functional without an account.

2.2 Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored only on your device (via SQLite and AsyncStorage) unless you create an account and choose to sync:

- Search history — words you have looked up
- Favorite words — your saved word bank
- Quiz progress — XP, level, current streak, longest streak, challenge results
- Achievements / badges — badges you have unlocked
- App settings — theme, difficulty, sound, haptics, notifications, reduced motion preferences
- Cached daily challenges — fetched for offline use

2.3 Information Collected Automatically

Analytics (PostHog)

We use PostHog to understand how the app is used and to improve it. PostHog collects:

- Events (e.g., challenge started, quiz completed, screen viewed)
- Session information (session duration, feature usage frequency)
- Device type and operating system version
- App version

PostHog data is pseudonymous — it is not linked to your name or email. You can opt out of analytics in the app Settings.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version of Synanto may display ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect:

- Advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android) — used to serve relevant ads
- Device information (model, OS version)
- General location (country/region level, derived from IP address)
- Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)

On iOS, we request your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt before collecting your advertising identifier. You may decline, and the app will continue to function with non-personalized ads.

On Android, AdMob uses the Google Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID).

You can reset or opt out of personalized ads through your device settings:
- iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking
- Android: Settings > Google > Ads

Push Notifications

If you grant permission, we send push notifications via Expo Notifications, including:

- Word of the Day — one notification each morning with a featured word
- Streak Reminders — an evening reminder to complete your daily challenge

Push notification tokens are stored in our backend (Supabase) to deliver these messages. You can disable notifications at any time in the app Settings or your device's notification settings.

2.4 Cloud Data (Signed-In Users Only)

If you create an account and sign in, the following data is synced to our backend (Supabase / PostgreSQL):

- Account information: username, email, avatar URL
- Progress data: XP, level, current and longest streak, last active date
- Challenge results: mode, difficulty, score, time taken, date played
- Achievements: badge keys and unlock timestamps
- Daily Challenge scores: used for global leaderboards

This data is stored securely in our Supabase database hosted in the United States, protected by Row Level Security (RLS) policies that ensure you can only access your own data.

10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
----------------------------

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. For material changes, we will notify you within the app. Continued use of Synanto after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
