Privacy Policy — SlothLock

Last updated: April 29, 2026

This Privacy Policy applies to the SlothLock application (referred to as "the Application") for Android devices, created by Federico Cannarozzi (referred to as "the Developer") as a free service. By using the Application, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

SlothLock is a digital wellbeing app that helps users reduce screen time on social media and other distracting apps through physical sensor-based challenges.

1. Information Collection and Use

1.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device

All data used by SlothLock is stored exclusively on your device. The Developer does not operate servers, cloud databases, or analytics services. The Developer does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data.

The Application stores the following data locally using SQLite, SharedPreferences, and EncryptedSharedPreferences (for security-sensitive items such as unlock timestamps and pending challenge state):

  • List of installed apps and their names — to display the app selection screen
  • App icons (cached images) — to display icons in the app list
  • Blocked app preferences — to remember which apps you chose to block
  • Challenge completion history — to track your progress, streaks, and badges
  • App usage statistics (from Android UsageStats API) — to show usage insights in the dashboard
  • User settings (language, difficulty, unlock duration) — to persist your preferences
  • XP, level, and badge data — to power the gamification features

1.2 Data the Developer Does NOT Collect

  • No Internet Protocol (IP) addresses
  • No personally identifiable information (name, email, phone number)
  • No precise or approximate location data
  • No contacts or call logs
  • No browsing history
  • No advertising identifiers
  • No analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry transmitted off-device
  • No data sent to external servers or third parties

The Application does not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to process your data.

2. Permissions and Sensitive APIs

SlothLock requests the following Android permissions, each required for its core functionality:

  • Accessibility Service — Detects when you open a blocked app so the challenge screen can appear. The service only monitors app window foreground changes; it does not read screen content, keystrokes, passwords, or any text you type. No data collected through this service leaves your device.
  • Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — Shows the challenge overlay and countdown timer on top of blocked apps.
  • Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) — Reads app usage data to display screen time statistics. This data stays on your device.
  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — Sends local notifications for unlock expiry warnings and daily progress.
  • Exact Alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM, USE_EXACT_ALARM) — Schedules precise local notifications for unlock expiry timers.
  • Vibration — Provides haptic feedback during physical challenges.
  • Receive Boot Completed — Ensures the blocking service restarts automatically after a device reboot.
  • Accelerometer / Motion Sensors — Used exclusively during shake-based and balance challenges. Sensor data is processed in real-time and never stored or transmitted.

Important disclosure regarding Accessibility Service: SlothLock uses Android's AccessibilityService API solely to detect when a user opens a blocked application and to display the challenge screen. The service does not collect, store, or transmit any data about the content you view, text you type, or any actions performed within other applications.

All permissions can be revoked at any time from Android Settings. Revoking certain permissions will disable related features.

3. Third-Party Services

SlothLock uses Google Play In-App Review API (provided by Google LLC) to allow users to submit app store ratings. This service may collect data according to Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). No other third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or analytics services are integrated.

4. Data Sharing

The Developer does not share any data with third parties. There are no advertising SDKs, no analytics services, no social login, no server-side processing, and no data brokers.

The Developer may disclose information only:

  • As required by law or a valid legal process (e.g., court order)
  • To protect the rights or safety of users or the public

5. Data Retention and Deletion

All data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all app data at any time by:

  1. Going to Android Settings → Apps → SlothLock → Storage → Clear Data
  2. Using the "Reset Statistics" option within the app's Settings screen
  3. Uninstalling the app — this permanently removes all data

6. Opt-Out

You can stop all data collection by the Application by uninstalling it using the standard Android uninstall process or via the Google Play Store.

7. Children's Privacy

The Application does not address anyone under the age of 13. The Developer does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age. Since the Application collects no personal data whatsoever, it poses no risk to minors. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact the Developer at slothlock.contact@gmail.com.

8. Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device, it is protected by your device's own security (screen lock, device encryption). The Application does not transmit data over any network, eliminating network-based security risks.

9. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Since SlothLock does not collect, process, or store personal data on external servers, most data protection regulation requirements (GDPR, CCPA) are automatically satisfied:

  • Right to access: All your data is visible within the app
  • Right to deletion: Clear data via Android Settings or uninstall the app
  • Right to portability: Not applicable (no account-based data)
  • Right to object: Not applicable (no personal data processing occurs)

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The Developer will notify users of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Application after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

11. Contact

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy, please contact the Developer at:

Email: slothlock.contact@gmail.com

12. Consent

By using the Application, you consent to the processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy.
