This Privacy Policy describes how SilentSOS (" the App") collects, uses, and shares your information when you use our personal safety application. SilentSOS is designed to provide emergency assistance through silent triggers and evidence recording.
1. Information Collection and Use
To provide life-saving services, SilentSOS requires access to specific data on your device. This data is stored locally on your device within the "Evidence Folder" and is only shared with individuals you explicitly designate as Emergency Contacts.
A. Sensitive Personal Data
Precise Location: We collect and track your GPS coordinates to provide real-time updates to your emergency contacts via SMS and WhatsApp. This includes background location access to ensure tracking continues when the app is closed or the screen is locked.
Audio Recordings: When an SOS session is active, the app records audio in 5-minute chunks to capture evidence of the emergency.
Images/Photos: The app periodically captures front-camera photos during an active SOS session for visual evidence.
Contact Information: We collect and store names, phone numbers, and email addresses for up to five (5) Emergency Contacts that you manually provide.
B. Device and Functional Data
Phone State: We access your phone state to ensure correct SIM selection for sending emergency SMS alerts on dual-SIM devices.
Sensor Data: We use accelerometer data to support the "Shake-to-Trigger" functionality.
2. Permissions Justification
Consistent with Google Play Store policies, we request the following permissions only for the purposes stated:
RECORD_AUDIO & CAMERA: To capture environmental evidence during an active emergency.
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION: To send your exact location to your contacts when you are in danger.
SEND_SMS: To automatically notify your trusted contacts without manual intervention.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: To ensure safety features like "Shake-to-Trigger" and the "Dead Man's Switch" restart automatically if your phone reboots.
USE_FULL_SCREEN_INTENT: To allow emergency alerts and WhatsApp prompts to appear over the lock screen.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties. Your data is shared only in the following contexts:
Emergency Contacts: Your location, audio, and photos are sent directly to the contacts you have saved in the app during an active SOS session.
WhatsApp: If enabled, the app uses WhatsApp to transmit emergency alerts and evidence.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
Local Storage: All evidence (audio, photos, and location logs) is organized in timestamped session in Android/data/com.ashsial.silentsos/files/evidence). This data can be viewed and obtained by by connecting device to Computer / PC via Adb.
User Control: Evidence is preserved until you manually delete it via by clearing app data in settings.
App Uninstallation: Uninstalling the app will generally remove the data stored in the app's private directories, though we recommend manually clearing the Evidence Locker prior to uninstallation to ensure all files are wiped.
5. Security
SilentSOS is built to operate securely during critical moments. We use a transparent "trampoline activity" to bypass key-guards during emergencies to ensure your alerts are sent even when the device is secured. However, please note that the effectiveness of the app may be impacted by manufacturer-specific battery optimizations (e.g., Xiaomi/MIUI restrictions).
6. Children’s Privacy
SilentSOS is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
