Scam Sentry – Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30/06/2026

Scam Sentry is an independent tool designed to help people recognise common scam patterns. This policy explains what information the app collects, what it does not collect, and how it is used.

1. No account or personal information required

Scam Sentry does not require you to create an account, log in, or provide your name, email address, or any other personal information to use the app.

2. Your answers are never shared, sold, or transmitted for any commercial purposes

When you go through a category's questions, your answers (Yes/No responses) are never shared, sold or otherwise exchanged with any 3rd parties as part of any commercial agreement. Our analytics anonymize data for Amplitude as a means of helping me understand app use and areas for improvement.

3. Anonymous usage analytics

To help us understand which features are useful and improve the app over time, Scam Sentry collects a small amount of anonymous, non-identifying usage data via Amplitude, a third-party analytics provider. This includes:

  • A randomly generated device identifier (not linked to your name, email, or any account)
  • Which scam category screen was viewed (e.g. "Romance Scam", "Phishing")
  • Whether a result was reached, and its general risk level (low/medium/high)
  • General technical information such as device operating system and platform, to help us identify and fix bugs

We do not collect:

  • Your IP address
  • Your location, city, or region
  • Your device manufacturer, model, or carrier
  • Any advertising or cross-app tracking identifiers
  • The actual content of your answers to individual questions

This analytics data cannot be used to identify you personally, and we have no way of linking it back to any specific individual.

4. The optional email feature

If you choose to tap the "Email us" link, your device's own email app opens with a pre-filled message addressed to our support inbox. This is entirely optional. If you do send an email, any information you choose to include in that message (such as your email address or the details you write) is visible to us in that email conversation only — this is separate from, and unrelated to, the anonymous analytics described in Section 3.

We do not ask for, and please do not send us, sensitive information such as passwords, PINs, OTPs, card numbers, or screenshots of banking apps.

5. No advertising

Scam Sentry contains no advertisements and does not share any data with advertising networks.

6. Data retention

Anonymous analytics events are retained by our analytics provider for 12 months before being automatically deleted. Emails sent to our support inbox are retained only as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry.

7. Third-party services

We use Amplitude (https://amplitude.com) for anonymous analytics. Amplitude may process data on servers located in the European Union, in accordance with their own privacy policy, available at https://amplitude.com/privacy.

We use your device's own email and web browser apps to open pre-filled emails and external links (such as Report Fraud, the FCA register, and Companies House) — we have no access to or control over what happens on those external sites once you leave the app.

8. Your rights

Because Scam Sentry does not collect any directly identifying information, we are generally unable to locate or delete a specific individual's anonymous usage data on request, as there is no way to determine which anonymous device ID belongs to a specific person.

If you have contacted us by email, you can request access to or deletion of that specific email correspondence by contacting: support@scam-sentry.co.uk

9. Children's privacy

Scam Sentry is intended to help people of all ages recognise scam patterns, including helping a user check on behalf of a friend or family member. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app's functionality or data practices. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.

11. Contact us
