1. Introduction

Welcome to Quiz Anything! This Privacy Policy describes how Rhapsody ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application "Quiz Anything" (the "App").

Your privacy is important to us. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with the terms, please do not access or use the App.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

Information You Provide Directly:

  • Quiz Parameters: When you request a quiz, we collect the topic (custom or preset), difficulty level, and number of questions you select. Custom topics entered are sent to our backend server and then to the OpenAI API solely for the purpose of generating your quiz.
  • Content Reports: If you use the reporting feature ("Report as inaccurate," "Report offensive content"), we collect the report type, the content you are reporting (question text, options, explanation), the associated topic and difficulty, and a timestamp. This information is sent to our backend server for review purposes.

Information Collected Automatically:

  • Usage Data: We may collect information about how you interact with the App, such as quizzes generated, features used, session duration, and interactions with UI elements. We may use standard tools like Google Analytics for Firebase for this purpose.
  • Device Information: We may collect information about the device you use to access the App, including hardware model, operating system version, unique device identifiers (like the Advertising ID for ad serving), IP address, and mobile network information. This is often collected automatically by third-party services we use (like AdMob, Firebase).
  • Crash Information: If the App crashes, we may collect diagnostic information, including device information, app state at the time of the crash, and stack traces using services like Firebase Crashlytics to help us identify and fix bugs.
  • App Check Information: To protect our services, the App uses Firebase App Check, which verifies that requests are coming from your genuine app instance on a legitimate device. This involves interaction with Google Play Integrity API, which assesses device and app integrity.

Information Collected by Third Parties:

  • OpenAI: Custom topics, difficulty, and question count selections are sent via our backend to the OpenAI API to generate quizzes. OpenAI's use of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy and API Data Usage Policies. We do not send personal identifiers to OpenAI with your quiz request.
  • Google AdMob: The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob may collect and use information such as your device's Advertising ID, IP address, device information, and app usage data to serve relevant ads and measure performance. You can learn more about Google's advertising practices and control your preferences via Google's settings. See Google's Privacy & Terms.
  • Google Play Services / Play Integrity: As part of App Check, information about your device and app integrity is shared with Google.
  • Firebase / Google Analytics: If used, these services collect usage and crash data as described above, governed by Google's privacy policies.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide and operate the core functionality of the App (generating quizzes based on your input).
  • To process and review content reports you submit to improve quiz quality and safety.
  • To display advertisements via AdMob to support the App (covering API and hosting costs).
  • To protect the security and integrity of our App and backend services using Firebase App Check.
  • To monitor and analyze usage trends and statistics to improve the App's performance, features, and user experience (using Analytics).
  • To diagnose and fix crashes and technical issues (using Crashlytics).
  • To comply with legal obligations.

4. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information under the following circumstances:

  • With Service Providers: We share necessary information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf:
    • OpenAI: To generate quiz content based on your topic/difficulty/count inputs.
    • Google: For advertising (AdMob), app integrity (App Check/Play Integrity), analytics (Firebase/Google Analytics), crash reporting (Crashlytics), and backend hosting (Google Cloud Run).
    • These providers only have access to the information necessary to perform their functions and are obligated to protect it.
  • For Legal Reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we have a good faith belief that disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) comply with legal process, (b) enforce our terms, (c) respond to claims that any content violates the rights of third parties, or (d) protect the rights, property, or personal safety of us, our users, or the public.
  • Business Transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to help protect information about you from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Communication with our backend server uses HTTPS. However, no electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Data related to quiz generation requests sent to OpenAI is subject to OpenAI's retention policies. Reports submitted via the reporting feature may be retained for review and improvement purposes. Usage and analytics data may be retained in aggregated or anonymized form for longer periods.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for or directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under the minimum age, we will take steps to delete such information as soon as possible.

8. Your Privacy Rights (Including Australia)

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your information. Residents of Australia have rights under the Australian Privacy Act 1988. Residents of other regions (like the EEA/UK under GDPR or California under CCPA) may have specific rights such as:

  • The right to access the information we hold about you.
  • The right to request correction of inaccurate information.
  • The right to request deletion of your information (subject to certain limitations).
  • The right to object to or restrict certain processing.

Since our App does not require user accounts or collect directly identifying personal information beyond what's described, exercising these rights might be limited in scope. However, if you have questions or wish to inquire about any data related to your device identifiers used by third-party services (like AdMob or Analytics), please contact us. You may also have options to manage ad personalization and data collection directly through your device settings or Google's settings.

9. Third-Party Services

This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that we do not own or control, including OpenAI, Google (AdMob, Play Services, Analytics, Cloud Platform), or any third-party websites/services you may access through the App. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third parties:

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the "Effective Date" at the top of the policy and, if the changes are significant, we may provide more prominent notice (such as adding a statement within the App). We encourage you to review the Privacy Policy periodically.
