Pip Privacy Policy

Pip is a bring-your-own-key AI assistant. You provide your own OpenRouter API key; Pip uses it to make AI requests on your behalf.

What Pip stores on your device
- Your OpenRouter API key, encrypted, in the extension's local storage. It never leaves your device except in requests to OpenRouter to authenticate your own API calls.
- Your settings, chat threads, and any image/PDF attachments you add, stored locally so your conversations persist. You can clear them at any time.
- Short-lived caches of OpenRouter's model list and your account/credit info.

What Pip sends, and to whom
- When you send a chat message, quote highlighted text, attach a file, or use Read Aloud, the content you chose (your text, selection, or file) is sent directly to OpenRouter (openrouter.ai) to produce the response or audio, authenticated with your key. This is the only backend Pip contacts for AI features.
- OpenRouter's handling of that data is governed by OpenRouter's own privacy policy.
- A one-time help video in onboarding is embedded from YouTube.

What Pip does NOT do
- Pip does not sell or share your data with anyone.
- Pip does not track your browsing history or the pages you visit.
- Pip does not log your activity, keystrokes, or run analytics.
- Pip does not collect personal information beyond your API key.

The highlight toolbar appears on web pages only when you select text, and transmits nothing unless you explicitly choose an action on that selection.
