Noctly — Last updated: April 2026

Noctly is an anonymous voice conversation app that connects two strangers for a single session. We collect as little data as possible and never sell it.

Who can use Noctly

You must be 13 years of age or older to use Noctly. The app presents an age confirmation screen on first launch. By confirming you are 13 or older, you represent that this is true. If you are under 13, please do not use the app.

What we collect

  • Device ID — a randomly generated UUID created on your device the first time you open the app. It is not linked to your name, email address, phone number, or any account. It is used solely to place you in a matching queue and associate your voice messages with a session.
  • Display name — a name you choose before each session. It is stored on your device and shared with your session partner during the conversation. It does not need to be your real name.
  • Voice recordings — audio clips you record and send during a session. These are uploaded to Firebase Storage so your partner can listen. They are keyed to a session ID, not to your identity.
  • Session metadata — basic information used to run the session: session ID, participant device IDs, chosen topic (if any), timestamps, and session status. Stored in Firebase Realtime Database.
  • Age confirmation — a boolean flag stored locally on your device indicating you have confirmed you are 13 or older. This is never transmitted off your device.

What we do not collect

  • No name, email address, phone number, or account credentials
  • No location data
  • No contacts, photos, or camera access
  • No advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID)
  • No analytics, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs
  • No persistent user profiles

Device permissions

Noctly requests access to your device's microphone to record voice messages during a session. This permission is requested the first time you attempt to record. Audio is only captured when you actively hold the record button — there is no background recording. You can revoke microphone access at any time through your device's settings, though doing so will prevent you from sending voice messages.

How we use your data

The data we collect is used exclusively to operate the app: placing you in a matching queue, pairing you with another user, delivering voice messages during a session, and showing the session summary at the end. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond running the service.

Data retention

Voice recordings and session data stored in Firebase are not automatically deleted on a schedule. Queue entries are removed as soon as a match is made or the session times out. If you would like recordings or session data associated with a session ID removed, contact us and we will delete them manually. Your device ID and display name can be cleared by uninstalling the app.

Third-party services

Noctly uses Google Firebase (Realtime Database and Cloud Storage) to store session data and voice messages. Data processed by Firebase is subject to Google's privacy policy. We do not use any other third-party services, SDKs, or analytics tools.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

Noctly is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app includes an age gate that blocks access for users who indicate they are under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, please contact us at privacy@noctly.app and we will take steps to remove any associated data promptly.

Data security

Voice recordings and session data are stored in Firebase, which applies industry-standard security controls. All data in transit is encrypted via TLS. Because Noctly does not require accounts or passwords, there are no credentials to protect or compromise.

Your choices

Because Noctly does not require an account, there is no profile to delete or manage. Your options are:

  • Device ID and name — cleared by uninstalling the app.
  • Microphone access — revocable at any time in your device settings.
  • Voice recordings — can be deleted upon request. Contact us with your session ID.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
