1. Overview

Mudal is a household budget planning app for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is stored, and what rights you have. We are committed to keeping your financial data private — it stays on your device and in your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to it.

3. Information Mudal Handles

Mudal does not collect or transmit any personal information to external servers. All data you enter is stored locally on your device and optionally synced to your personal iCloud account using Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage.

The information you enter into the app may include:

  • Household name
  • Income figures for one or two income sources
  • Fixed expense names, amounts, categories, and due dates
  • Bank account names and owners (e.g. You, Partner, Joint)
  • Savings goal names, contribution amounts, target amounts, and dates
  • Monthly planning history, including archived income, expenses, and savings

This information is entirely under your control. We never see it, store it on our servers, or share it with third parties.

 

4. How Your Data Is Stored

Mudal stores all data in two places, both of which are private to you:

  • iCloud Key-Value Storage (NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore): If you are signed into iCloud on your device, Mudal uses Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage to sync your data across your devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account, which is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to your iCloud data.
  • Local storage (UserDefaults): Mudal also caches data locally on your device using UserDefaults as a fallback. This data is stored on-device only and is not accessible to us.

Data is saved as JSON. No database, no backend, no account sign-up is required to use Mudal.

 

5. iCloud and Household Sharing

Mudal uses iCloud Key-Value Storage solely for the purpose of syncing your budget plan between your own devices (for example, your iPhone and iPad). It does not use CloudKit shared databases, and it does not send your data to any server that we operate.

If you use Mudal with a partner or household member, iCloud sharing is done entirely through Apple's infrastructure. We have no involvement in or access to that shared data.

 

6. Notifications

Mudal requests permission to send you local notifications. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on-device and include:

  • Monthly planning reminders on your selected pay date
  • Bill renewal reminders 7 days and 1 day before a renewal date
  • Bill end-date reminders 7 days and 1 day before an end date

No notification data is sent to external servers. You can revoke notification permission at any time in your iOS Settings.

 

7. Data We Do Not Collect

Mudal does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Your name, email address, or any contact information
  • Your device identifiers, IP address, or location
  • Usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Financial account numbers, bank credentials, or payment card details

Mudal contains no analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or third-party tracking libraries.

 

8. Third-Party Services

Mudal does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data processing services. The only external service involved in the operation of Mudal is Apple's iCloud, which is governed by Apple's own Privacy Policy available at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

 

9. Children's Privacy

Mudal is a household financial planning tool intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your region). As Mudal does not collect any personal data at all, it presents no privacy risk for users of any age. However, the app is not designed for use by children.

 

10. Your Rights

Because all your data is stored on your own device and in your own iCloud account, you have full control over it at all times.

  • Access: All your data is visible within the app at all times.
  • Deletion: You can delete all app data at any time using the Reset All Data option in Settings. This permanently removes all plans, history, expenses, savings goals, notifications, and iCloud/local saved values.
  • Export: You can delete the app from your device at any time. Removing the app will remove locally stored data. iCloud data can be managed from your iCloud account settings on your device.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with applicable data protection laws, please note that because we do not process or access your personal data, we do not act as a data controller or processor in relation to your use of Mudal.

 

11. Data Retention

We do not retain any of your data because we do not receive it. Data persists on your device and iCloud account until you choose to delete it, either within the app using the Reset All Data function, or by removing the app from your device.

 

12. Security

Your data is protected by the security measures provided by your device's operating system and Apple's iCloud infrastructure, including device encryption and iCloud encryption at rest and in transit. We recommend keeping your device's passcode enabled and your iOS version up to date.

 

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this document. Significant changes will be noted in the App Store release notes. Continued use of Mudal after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
