Privacy Policy for MOT Checker: Vehicle History

Overview

MOT Checker: Vehicle History ("the app") is a free UK vehicle MOT history lookup tool. We take your privacy seriously and collect as little data as possible.

Data We Collect

• Anonymous usage identifier — When you open the app, a random anonymous ID is generated via Firebase Authentication. This is not linked to your name, email, or any personal information. It is used solely to prevent abuse of our lookup service.
• Vehicle registrations and VINs you search — These are sent to our server to retrieve MOT history from the DVSA. We do not store your search history.
• Vehicles saved to your garage — Stored locally on your device only. We never upload your saved vehicles.

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, or any other personally identifiable information.

Third-Party Services

• Firebase (Google) — Used for anonymous authentication and our backend functions. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• DVSA MOT History API — Vehicle data is retrieved from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. The app does not share your personal data with DVSA.

Data Retention

The anonymous ID is reset if you uninstall and reinstall the app. No search history is retained on our servers.

Children's Privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
