Privacy Policy
Memento Mori (“Year Progress: Memento Mori”) · Last updated: 11 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Memento Mori app (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles your information. We built Memento Mori to be private by default: the things you create in the App stay on your device, and we collect as little as possible. By using the App, you agree to this policy.
1. Information stored only on your device
The following never leaves your device, is never uploaded to us, and is never visible to us:
- Journal entries — any notes you write against a day are saved locally on your device.
- Your videos — videos you add as backgrounds are copied into the App’s private storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere.
- Your preferences — settings such as progress-bar colour, mute state, and notification choices are stored locally.
Because this data lives only on your device, deleting the App permanently removes it. We cannot recover it for you.
2. Information collected automatically (analytics)
To understand how the App is used and to improve it, we use PostHog, a third-party analytics service. PostHog collects anonymous usage data such as:
- App events (for example: which screens are opened, when the paywall is shown, and whether a purchase is started or completed);
- A randomly generated device/installation identifier;
- Basic technical information such as device model, operating-system version, and approximate region.
This analytics data is not linked to your name, email, or any account, because the App does not have accounts. We use it only in aggregate to improve the App.
3. Purchases and subscriptions
Memento Mori offers optional paid subscriptions and a one-time lifetime purchase. Payments are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store — we never see or store your card details. To manage entitlements and restore purchases, we use RevenueCat, which receives a random anonymous identifier and your App Store purchase receipt to determine whether your subscription is active. We do not receive your Apple ID or payment information.
4. Photo / video library access
If you choose to add your own video background, the App asks for permission to access the specific video you select from your library. Only the video you pick is imported, and it remains on your device. The App does not scan, read, or upload your wider photo library.
5. Notifications
If you enable daily quote notifications, these are scheduled locally on your device. We do not operate a push-notification server and do not collect data to send them.
6. How we use information
- To provide and maintain the App’s features;
- To understand usage and improve performance and design (analytics);
- To verify your subscription or lifetime purchase status.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
7. Third-party services
The third parties that may process limited data as described above maintain their own privacy policies:
- Apple — apple.com/legal/privacy
- RevenueCat — revenuecat.com/privacy
- PostHog — posthog.com/privacy
8. Data retention
On-device data is retained until you delete it or remove the App. Anonymous analytics data is retained by our analytics provider for as long as needed to understand product trends.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Because the App does not tie data to your identity, the most direct way to delete the data associated with you is to delete the App, which removes all on-device data. For any request regarding analytics data, contact us using the details below.
10. Children’s privacy
The App is rated 4+ but is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Security
Your content is stored within the App’s private storage provided by iOS. While no method of storage is completely secure, we rely on Apple’s platform protections and limit the data we collect to reduce risk.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
