COMPASS PRIVACY POLICY

Effective date: July 15, 2026

Compass is a personal travel companion created and operated by Victoria Ali ("Compass," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information Compass uses, why it is needed, how Apple frameworks and services support the app, and the choices available to you.

We designed Compass to request information only when it supports a feature you choose to use. We do not sell personal information, use it for targeted advertising, or track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.

1. Information Compass May Use

A. Location Information

With your permission, Compass may access your precise or approximate device location to:

- Identify your current area and a suitable nearby tourism destination.
- Recommend places and calculate estimated distance.
- Display maps and directions through MapKit.
- Provide location-aware weather through WeatherKit.
- Detect when you are near a point of interest.
- Schedule relevant local notifications when you have enabled them.

Compass may use location while the app is open and, if you separately authorize background location, while the app is not open for nearby-place alerts. You can change this permission at any time in Settings.

B. Voice and Speech Information

If you choose to speak with the guide, Compass uses the microphone, AVFoundation, and Apple's speech-recognition capabilities to capture and transcribe your request. Voice access begins only after your action and permission. The app provides a visible recording state while the microphone is active.

Your spoken request or resulting transcription may be processed online to prepare a response. Compass does not intentionally use voice content for advertising or to build an advertising profile.

C. Questions and Interaction Content

Text or transcribed questions you submit to the guide, recent conversational context, selected language, and relevant travel area may be processed to understand and answer your request. Please avoid submitting passwords, payment-card details, government identifiers, health information, or other sensitive information.

D. Saved Places, Journal Entries, and Photos

When you choose to save a place, mark a visit, write a journal entry, or attach a photo, Compass stores that content so the feature works. If iCloud synchronization is enabled, this content may be stored in your private CloudKit database and synchronized across devices connected to your Apple Account.

Compass does not make your private CloudKit records public.

E. Subscription and Purchase Information

Compass uses StoreKit to offer and verify subscriptions. Apple processes payment information. Compass receives limited transaction and entitlement information needed to determine whether Premium features are available, restore purchases, and reflect subscription status. Compass does not receive or store your full payment-card details.

F. Notifications

If you allow notifications, Compass may schedule local alerts about nearby points of interest, travel discoveries, or app features you have enabled. Notification permission and presentation can be changed in Settings at any time.

G. Technical and Diagnostic Information

Compass and Apple system services may produce technical information such as app version, device and operating-system compatibility, request timing, error details, and crash or performance diagnostics. We use available diagnostics to maintain reliability, investigate failures, prevent abuse, and improve performance.

2. How We Use Information

We use information only as reasonably necessary to:

- Provide personalized place discovery and travel guidance.
- Answer requests and maintain short conversational context.
- Show maps, weather, distances, directions, and nearby suggestions.
- Operate voice input and spoken responses.
- Save and synchronize content you choose to keep.
- Deliver notifications you request.
- Verify Premium access and restore eligible purchases.
- Secure, debug, maintain, and improve Compass.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations and protect users and the Service.

We do not use your personal information for targeted advertising and do not sell it.

3. Online Processing and Public Information

Some Compass features require an internet connection. When you ask the guide a question or request current travel information, Compass may send the minimum context reasonably needed to process the request, such as your question, selected language, relevant city or region, and limited recent conversation.

Compass may also retrieve publicly available travel information, venue pages, images, and other online material to answer your request. Linked websites have their own privacy practices. Opening a link may allow that website to receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address and browser details.

We ask service providers involved in processing requests to handle information only for providing and securing the requested functionality. We do not authorize them to use Compass requests for targeted advertising on our behalf.

4. Apple Services

Compass uses Apple technologies that may process information under Apple's own terms and privacy policies, including:

- Location Services and Core Location.
- MapKit.
- WeatherKit.
- Speech and AVFoundation.
- iCloud and CloudKit.
- UserNotifications.
- StoreKit and the App Store.

Information handled directly by Apple is governed by Apple's applicable terms and privacy practices. Your Apple Account, payment details, iCloud controls, device permissions, and App Store subscription settings are managed by Apple.

5. Storage and Retention

Compass keeps information only for as long as reasonably needed for the feature, security, legal compliance, or your chosen settings.

- Local app preferences, cached travel content, recent results, and downloaded media may remain on your device until automatically replaced, cleared by the app, or removed when you delete the app.
- Saved places, visits, journal entries, and attached photos synchronized through CloudKit remain in your private iCloud data until you delete them through available controls or manage the associated iCloud data.
- Short-lived request content may be retained only as needed to complete, secure, and troubleshoot the request, subject to operational and legal requirements.
- Subscription transaction history is retained by Apple according to Apple's policies. Compass may retain entitlement state needed to provide purchased access.

We do not promise that every cached or synchronized copy disappears instantly. Deletion may take reasonable time to propagate through backups and synchronized systems.

6. Sharing and Disclosure

We may disclose limited information only:

- To process a feature you requested.
- Through Apple services you enabled, such as CloudKit, MapKit, WeatherKit, speech services, notifications, and StoreKit.
- To technical providers that help operate, secure, or troubleshoot Compass under appropriate restrictions.
- When required by law, legal process, or a valid government request.
- When reasonably necessary to protect users, prevent fraud or abuse, investigate security incidents, or defend legal rights.
- In connection with a business reorganization, only with appropriate notice and safeguards required by law.

We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-app targeted advertising.

7. Your Choices and Controls

You remain in control of optional permissions. In iOS Settings, you can manage:

- Precise or approximate location and background location.
- Microphone and speech recognition.
- Notifications.
- Mobile data access.
- iCloud access for Compass.

You can manage or cancel Compass Premium in your Apple Account subscription settings and use Restore in the app for eligible purchases.

You may delete locally stored Compass content by using available in-app controls or deleting the app. You may manage iCloud data through your Apple Account and device settings. To request help accessing, correcting, or deleting information controlled directly by Compass, contact us at compass.app.ar@gmail.com.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of certain personal information, and to withdraw consent. We may need to verify your request. Withdrawing permission may prevent some features from working, but it does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information. Apple platform protections, encrypted network connections where supported, device security, and private CloudKit storage help protect app data.

No system can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting your device, Apple Account, passcode, and backups. If you believe your information or account may be at risk, contact us promptly.

10. International Processing

Online services may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate legal safeguards for international transfers. Local privacy rights remain available according to applicable law.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Compass changes, legal requirements evolve, or privacy practices are improved. The revised policy will show a new effective date. If a change materially affects your rights or how personal information is used, we will provide reasonable notice through the app, the App Store listing, or another appropriate channel.
