BillSplit Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 20, 2026

BillSplit is an iPhone app by Ziyue Li. It does not require an account or registration. This policy explains what information is processed when you use the app.

Receipt images and text
You choose whether to capture a receipt with the camera or select an image from Photos. BillSplit reads receipt text with Apple Vision on your device. When Apple Private Cloud Compute is available, BillSplit may send the receipt image and recognized text to Apple's Private Cloud Compute service to analyze the receipt. Apple states that Private Cloud Compute uses this information only to fulfill the request and deletes it after returning the response; Apple staff cannot access it. If Private Cloud Compute is unavailable, BillSplit tries Apple's on-device language model and then a local text-recognition parser. The developer does not operate a server that receives receipt images or extracted receipt details.

Information stored on your device
Saved split profiles, including profile names, item names, group size, and split percentages, are stored in the app's local storage. The app also stores your cumulative optional tip total locally. Receipt images and the current receipt are held in app memory while you work on a split; BillSplit does not save receipt images or receipt details to a developer-operated server. Dismissing the receipt clears the current receipt from the app.

Optional tips
If you choose to send an optional tip, the purchase is handled by Apple's App Store payment system. BillSplit does not receive your payment card or billing information. Apple handles purchase information under Apple's own terms and privacy policy.

Camera and Photos access
Camera access is used only when you start a receipt scan. Photo access is limited to the image you select through Apple's photo picker. You can manage camera permissions in iOS Settings.

Sharing, advertising, and analytics
BillSplit does not use advertising or cross-app tracking and does not operate its own analytics or account service. The app does not transmit your saved profiles or split calculations to the developer.

Children
BillSplit is not designed for children under 13, and the developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
