This Privacy Policy explains how the BestRate mobile application ("BestRate", "the app", "we", "us") handles information. BestRate is a currency exchange rate application. We have designed it to work without collecting personal information about you.

By using BestRate, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Summary

  • We do not collect, store, or sell your personal data.
  • BestRate has no user accounts, no login, and no passwords.
  • BestRate contains no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking SDKs.
  • BestRate does not use the Android advertising ID or any similar device identifier.
  • Everything you create in the app, including rate alerts, stays on your device.

Information We Collect

We do not collect any personal information.

BestRate does not ask you to create an account, does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or payment details, and does not access your contacts, photos, files, camera, microphone, or precise location.

We do not use advertising networks, analytics services, crash reporting services, or attribution tools. No third-party tracking software is embedded in the app.

Data Stored on Your Device

BestRate stores the following information locally on your device only:

  • Cached currency exchange rates, so the app can show data when you are offline.
  • Rate alerts that you create, including the currencies and thresholds you choose.
  • Your app preferences and settings.

This information never leaves your device. We have no access to it, and it is not backed up to our servers or shared with anyone.

Network Requests and Our Backend

To show you current exchange rates, BestRate connects to our backend, which is hosted on Google Firebase. This happens when you open the app and periodically in the background so that rates stay up to date.

These requests contain only what is needed to retrieve exchange rate data. They do not include your identity, your alerts, or any other information about you.

As with any internet service, our hosting provider automatically processes basic technical information in order to deliver a response. This typically includes your device's IP address, the time of the request, and standard connection details. This processing is performed by Google as our infrastructure provider and is a normal part of how internet connections work. We do not use this technical data to identify you, build a profile, or track you across services.

Maps

Some screens in BestRate display a map showing the location of a currency exchange provider. Map tiles for these maps are loaded from OpenFreeMap, a free open-source map hosting service operated by Hyperknot Software Kft. (Hungary), using map data from OpenStreetMap.

When a map is displayed, your device connects directly to OpenFreeMap's servers to download the map tiles. OpenFreeMap does not require registration, API keys, or cookies, and by default does not log IP addresses. It may temporarily log IP addresses for a limited period if it detects abuse or a security threat. We have no control over, and no access to, any data processed by OpenFreeMap.

Maps are only loaded when you open a screen that shows one. No location data from your device is used, and BestRate does not request location permission.

Notifications

BestRate can send you notifications when one of your rate alerts is triggered.

These notifications are generated entirely on your device. After the app fetches the latest rates, it compares them against the alerts stored locally on your phone. If a condition is met, your device creates the notification itself. We do not send push messages to you, and your alerts are never transmitted to our servers.

You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

Permissions We Use

BestRate requests a small number of permissions, each for a specific purpose:

  • Internet access — to download current exchange rates from our backend and map tiles for provider locations.
  • Post notifications — to display alerts you have set up, on your device.
  • Run at startup — so that scheduled background rate updates continue to work after your device restarts.

BestRate does not request location, contacts, storage, camera, or microphone permissions.

Third-Party Services

BestRate relies on Google Firebase to host the backend that supplies exchange rate data. Google acts as our infrastructure provider and processes technical request data as described above.

BestRate also loads map tiles from OpenFreeMap when displaying provider locations, as described in the Maps section above.

We do not integrate any advertising, analytics, or marketing services.

Children's Privacy

BestRate is intended for a general audience, primarily travellers and adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app does not collect personal information from anyone, no such data can be gathered from a child using the app.

Data Retention and Deletion

Because we do not collect your personal data, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side.

All data created by the app is stored locally on your device. You can remove it at any time by clearing the app's data in your device settings, or by uninstalling BestRate. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all locally stored rates, alerts, and settings.

Security

We use standard secure connections (HTTPS) for communication between the app and our backend. Because no personal data is transmitted or stored on our servers, the risk to your personal information is minimal. Data kept on your device is protected by your device's own security features.

Your Rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR give you rights over your personal data, including access, correction, and deletion. Since BestRate does not collect or hold personal data about you, we do not have any information to provide, correct, or erase. If you believe otherwise, you are welcome to contact us and we will respond.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if the app gains new features. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be reflected in an updated version of the app and this policy. We encourage you to review this page occasionally.
